Stress is experienced in the body, too

Stress and trauma can show up as muscle tension, changes in breathing, restlessness, fatigue, or difficulty feeling settled. Yoga and somatic approaches invite participants to notice physical cues with curiosity rather than push past their limits.

The aim is not to achieve perfect poses or force relaxation. It is to develop awareness and options for responding to stress in ways that feel accessible and sustainable.

What might a yoga and somatic group include?

A group may offer gentle movement, grounding, breath awareness, body-sensation tracking, and opportunities to reflect on what feels supportive. Facilitators can offer choices and modifications, with attention to comfort, accessibility, and personal boundaries.

Participation can be adapted; individuals should be able to opt out of a practice that feels uncomfortable. Neither yoga nor somatic exercises require detailed retelling of traumatic experiences.

The value of integrated care

Premier Family Counseling combines a trauma-informed therapy perspective with attention to the nervous system, relationships, and day-to-day functioning. When indicated, a yoga and somatic group may complement psychotherapy or other medical and mental health services.

These practices may support regulation and self-awareness, but they should not be described as a guaranteed treatment or cure for PTSD, chronic pain, or other conditions.
